walk street bungalow tour

a few doors down is an adorable bungalow. actually it's not really a bungalow, more of a diminutive cape cod. this one owned by my friend and business partner, allison (i know, basically most of my friends are named 'allison'-it's been this way since high school)
this house was trashed until 4 years ago. dirty, smelly and ready for demo. then a nice family from naperville, illinois came in and breathed new life into it. since then allison and her family moved in and added the finishing touches. allison has the perfect design aesthetic for this home.... she has built ins. love built ins.
the "calendar pages as art" project in action: the girl, seriously, knows how to work 'beach casual chic'
i love that she had the ceilings painted this soft salmon against the walls which are a sand color.
she has a backyard (a rare thing on a walk street) that's the garage turned guest house. i'd show you it but it's filled with our staging props right now.
these sweet little bungalows of the walk street are becoming a dying breed. they're being razed and replaced by behemoth homes on tiny lots. here's a shot of the walk street, you can see what i mean.
believe me, i enjoy a lot of living space, just like the next guy. but i love that there are still a few of these little beach cottages.

Long live the bungalow! Great job with the garden too.

Beautiful place. Can't understand why people want big echoey houses when you can have something this nice...and near the beach!

Charming! We used to have a beach house on Balboa Penninsula that we went to every summer. The same thing has happened there. It used to be very cape cod-ish in Newport, but it is now very McMansion on the bay. Very sad I think. I still take the kids to the Fun Zone for frozen bananas every year though.

I love the concept of a walk street. So, in the street, no cars right? But if you own a car, is there an alleyway? Where would you park a car.

Worried about you in So Padre Island,

behind our homes are these alleys. that's where we park. but it's no bueno if you're visiting someone on a walk street. because the parking is minimal.
Great post! I love it when people decorate appropriate to the environment...hence, beach chic for a beach house. Believe it or not, I have seen a house that is decorated in desert style and it is right on the beach!

The hot air balloons are my favorite!

desert at the beach? huh. interesting. i'm still trying to wrap my head around the faux italian villa thing that people so love to do here.
