"i hate perfume", scent is life

i'm a smell person. i love a beautifully scented candle and i love perfume. what i don't love is smelling like everyone else nor do i like that weird, synthetic after smell of a lot of the over-the-counter (department store) perfumes. certain scents remind me of people i've known, experiences or eras of my life (both good and bad)
'norell'= the closet of my childhood friend's 70s-hip mom
'gorgio'+ 'spritz forte'= the hallways of the kappa house
'love's baby soft'= 7th grade roller skating on friday nights
"fried food"=the neighbor's house when i was a kid, around 5:30 p.m.
"pinon wood"= aspen at night in the winter
"new doll face"= christmas mornings of my youth
ralph lauren, "tuxedo" perfume= my older, teenage sister circa 1976
'baking bread and chamomile tea' = my mom's kitchen
'garlic in a hot wok/chinese 5 spice'= everyday around 2:30, my house in san francisco (the area restaurants, readying up for dinner as the fog rolled in)
we all have smell association. some weird, some good but always a memory or emotion stirred. smell is one of our most primal olfactory 'connection' instincts.
"CBi hate perfume" owner----artist/perfumer/nose , christian brosius, has created this beautiful and eclectic collection of scents that are reminiscent of, well, exactly what he says......"i am a dandeloin', 'wild hunt', 'fire from heaven', 'greenbriar 1968','memory of kindness' and more, many more what does 'black march' smell like?

"Rain Drops, Leaf Buds, Wet Twigs, Tree Sap, Bark, Mossy Earth and the faintest hint of Spring Flower Bulbs as pretty and bright as rain drops on black twigs in March"
or what about "at the beach, 1966"?

"Coppertone 1967 blended with a new accord I created especially for this perfume – North Atlantic. The base of the scent contains a bit of Wet Sand, Seashell, Driftwood and just a hint of Boardwalk. The effect when you wear At The Beach 1966 is as if you’ve been swimming all day in the ocean."

i think that this may be my favorite of the collection (although how do you choose?)
"Delicate spring flowers (hyacinth, daffodils, jonquils & crocuses), green shoots, wet dirt & a bit of moss"
In the words of brosius:
"Scent is the record of your own special life – it’s your experience. My mission is to capture that experience. I bottle it so you can have it, use it and love it whenever you wish. I can give you scent experiences you never dreamed possible. I create perfumes as unique & individual as those who wear them. And I use a great many scents never before thought of as “perfume”. But I know these are just the scents that really hit us where we live – they’re the ones we remember and love. These scents are life."

I never thought about perfumes expressing ones uniquness. I love to smell sweet, fresh, and springish which is why I like Escada's new Fragrance Moon Sparkle. It can only be found at Macy's, Sephora, and Dillards, and comes with additional cool gifts like a free music downlead and Rihanna CD when purchased. These stores will be having in-store events that will allow people to see Rihanna live in either Chicago, San Francisco, and NYC between March and April. Escada will be sponsoring a "Girl's Night Out" benefit concert for her Believe Foundation, which was organized to help kids all around the world. For more information on how to see Rihanna perform live, enter at http://www.escada-fragrances.com Does anyone plan on entering?

I just did a piece on a soap that is my signature scent.

A friend wrote a piece for the december men's vogue about having a bespoke scent created to his specs. it included things like tobacco, coppertone, grass and tennis balls.

Ha! Love's Baby Soft! Tabu reminds me of my 500-lb 6th grade math teacher, Mrs. Lohnes (pronounced lowness) who was good buddies with Mr. Frieze (uh-huh) who was about 6'3" and a buck fifty. What a pair they made. Wind Song: flirting with boys at the St. Agnes Bowling Alley (did you ever go there?). Outdoors + bacon frying = camping in the summer.

My husband grew up near the beach so he loves the smell of Coppertone and sea water. Takes him back every time.

My favorite scent is Sweet Tea by Elizabeth W. I found it at Anthropologie and they no longer carry it, so I buy it in deuces at the source in S.F.

Great post, BB8!

chrissy- now you have me curious. i've been infamously snobby about my scents. i'll def. check this one out next time i'm at sephora!
pigtown- i LOVE the idea of bespoke fragrances. but how do you choose?
the perfume i've worn for 22 years pretty much covers my favorite scents. 'antonia's flowers' white, clean and citrus.
cote de texas: where you been gf?

becky: if i ever see that one, i'll snag you some. i think i'd have to have this guy make me a fragrance based on my favorite if antiona's flowers ever went defunct.

buring maple leaves? mmm. i bet that's like one of my favorite dyptique scents, feu de bois. love that smell.
Great minds.....I'm tellin' ya. I JUST picked up the Beach 1966 at Pod in Brookline for my little upcoming trip to Mexico and then saw your post. I love this guy's whole schtick.

xxoo,
k

back in the day, i worked in retail and was in the "hosiery" department, next to the lady who had to spray you with "tea rose" - to this day, that particular fragrance makes me nauseous.
I love real smells!
I will follow my nose to your tip....
your dog looks like my dog---!

beachbungalow8- You should check it out. It combines fruity overtones with floral undertones along with delicate summer fruits to create a fragrance that is fresh and enticing. And lets not forget about the additional perks that come along with the perfume when you purchase it, like the free Rihanna CD, music download, and a chance to see Rihanna perfrom live at her "Girls Night Out" concert. You can go to http://www.escada-fragrances.com for more information

I've been really curious about the I Hate Perfume line. Haven't tried any of them, though.

I buy heaps of samples on luckyscent.com; they've got a wonderful, eclectic selection. Never bought a sample from this line, though.

LOVE the Black March description.

""new doll face"= christmas mornings of my youth"

Haha! I too get vivid memories from my childhood when smelling these plastic-y smells. They remind me of beach balls too!
