orla kiely-the bag can make the girl.

i once saw this impossibly, cool looking girl on my flight from sf to la. she wore a long, navy cashmere reefer coat. and on her feet a pair of chuck t.s sticking out beneath her frayed jeans. behind her she dragged an orla kiely carry on bag. and for a moment i was stuck between that girl-envy thing and that i-want-to-be-your-new-bff thing. and the more i 'checked her out' the more i realized, it wasn't the over all look, it was THAT BAG. i had to have that bag. it apparently turns any outfit into an enviable look. orla kiely began her company with her signature bags made of her fresh, contemporary fabrics. they were youthful and light during the fashion era of the 90s when black was so prevalent. Over the next decade that small, "bag collection" has grown to include a complete ready-to -wear women's wear line, accessories, travel and home. there's a definitive orla kiely look, and it's all about color, pattern, balance, rhythm and design. she's now branching out into other looks which is such a sign of amazing creativity. her look keeps evolving. here are a few of her newest bags: oh and btw, that girl was some well known comedian who dates some late night talk show guy (who was with her). but this why L.A. gets so wasted on me. i just don't know 'famous' when i see it. i'm too concerned with the baggage. orlakiely.com

I am a huge fan of Orla Kiely and couldn't agree more with your statement that the "had to have that bag". So true! I feel like her products pack a punch to any outfit and they stand the test of time.

I love that bag, ok, I'm spending money tonight baby - a bag AND perfume! Once, years ago, a neighbor I didn't know knocked on my door because we had both, unbeknownst to us, adopted the SAME stray cat, and she came over to stake out her claim to Footsie. She was SO angry and foaming at the mouth, but she was dressed so great, so chic, I could barely even hear her because I was checking her up and down and wonderin where did SHE come from? Her outfit was jsut so cool. She won the cat war probably becuase of THAT outfit. And I am 100% heterosexual. ha. funny to think about that time.
