have you seen my pride and joy?

one of the first observations my S.O. made about mi casa , was that i have very few personal photos around the old beach bungalow. he of the: refrigerator covered in 'party pics' of friends and family. he of the, on every surface lets have lots o' framed photos. later, he took it personally that i never put a framed photo of us next to my bed. nothing personal my love. i just don't really decorate with personal photos. i don't like a ton of photo clutter everywhere.
i don't know why i don't. i mean, i do, but they're all kept on one wall.
very art directed and orderly. so my question, do you decorate with personal photos? and in what way? in a group on a table? slid beneath a frame around a mirror? on the refrigerator? do tell......
this just in from reader and fellow blogger rowhousecreative her lovely hallway-nicely done!~

well... this is a teeny bit gross but I put the majority of family snaps and other interesting drawings and clippings on the back of the toilet door!
I've got a huge magnet board on the back of one of the dunny doors and a several pinboards on the other. That way I can change the photos and stuff around really easily and I get to visit with them and relive happy memories several times a day!
My husband has a few rules though - I can't have any photos of my mum or nana on them - he can't "perform" if they are "looking" at him! (can't blame him really).

PS-I visited the link - walk with sally.org - you gave me and was blown away by the open-heartedness of people in the world - more power to you and your fiance.
I really appreciated your comment about being open about the cancer thing - just wait til I get started on mental health!!!

oh, I was thinking Senior Officer. kidding. I don't have a ton - almost none downstairs (only in the kitchen/family room - mostly in our bedrooms, mostly family. I do have a wedding day picture on my bedside table (but not in the "gown." The wall is fab - and I love the color.

BTW, I can't believe that top photo is from your house I thought it was from a design magazine.

totally agree with your point of view on photos. not a big fan of them everywhere -rather carefully thought out locations are best! hallways or one wall. a dear friend has all of them on one wall and they are attached with "velcro" and never askew!

I am so excited because I just blogged about mye family photo wall last night -- take a look:

Love your blog btw!
My friend Jason carries around that picture too.

I don't have photos everywhere – they're in albums or in a nice box. I can take them out and look at them when I want to, but I don't like having them all over the walls.

I do like them all on one wall though, so I guess it's an all-or-nothing kind of thing to me. My uncle was a photographer for many years, and he has tons of photos everywhere in his home. It's really nice.

Yes, LOVE the personal photos (as long as they're not lining a staircase in those crappy 70's oak frame montage thingeys that every grandma has)!!!

But a nice hallway gallery, a few beautifully framed black and white prints, maybe a Tiffany's frame or two?? Bring it. Homes without photos and books are a little spooky to me. Where's the personality?

I love going to open houses and checking out the photos -- esp. here in Hollywood since there are some pretty interesting personal galleries in bathrooms, etc. OK, maybe that sounds a trifle unbalanced and stalker-ish, but I swear it's just that I'm interested in people and their personal spaces!

So glad to have found your site! Very inspirational. I too like to keep most of my photos on one wall, with just a few others scattered around. Love the gallery walls.

Thanks for sharing! You have great ideas here!

Never, never, ever!!! Yeechh! I have a small wall on a landing with daughter's picture at different ages, in matching type frames. That's it, baby.

I just was at a new client's house for a look see. And she has a wall of shelves with the cabinets underneath and the shelves were so busy, they became the focal point, even over the fireplace. Overwhelming. And filled, filled with photos in every kind of frame imaginable. WHAT I DO: Take all your favorite photos out of the crappy frames, get a huge gorgeous blue and white porcelain bowl and fill her up. At family get togethers, people pour through the bowl, whereas if the pictures were in frames no one would even look. Every client of mine gets a big bowl for pictures. Period. (I wish they all listened to me tht good!)

I'm with you on the family photo thing!! I tend to do a gallery wall or display them tastefully...on my main level that is. Down in the family room, where the kids rule, there are lots of pics of them. It seemed like a good solution since I am always snapping pictures of them!!

I did a post on displaying family photos a while back. Have a look...

Great blog, by the way...

As I have four children it seems a requirement to have photos of them all over the house. I guess it affirms our love for them on some level!

I prefer vintage picture frames, silver tones or black. I keep them in groups of three or five - not sure why, odd numbers simply appeal to me. I have three on the mantle, five on a large round table, five on another buffet/hutch. I don't like photos hung on the wall for some reason.

I keep out photos of my children when they were small and loveable. It keeps me from smacking their sassy teenage selves.
