I ran across London based, multi media textile designer, Karen Nicol's work the other day and was so pulled in. I love her process of creating the animals. She begins by drawing the animal out, then enlarges it and through a process of building complex textile layers, brings dimension and life to the, originally, one dimensional images. Really amazing and prolific. To see more go here

'Tis the season of gift giving, and I man do I have a super fantastic gift for one of you lucky ducks! No, it's not a pony. It's something that requires nothing of you but to leave a comment (with your email).

 This beautiful gift comes from Oughton Limited, purveyors of luxury bags that are as durable as they are elegant. Like all good business ideas, creator, Daphne Markcrow, developed the Oughton Limited bag line out of a specific need. She was shipping horses from her farm to nearby trainers and realized she needed something large enough to keep everything organized yet not as big as a show trunk-and it needed to look good while doing that.

What she came up with is a beautiful collection of Equestrian inspired luggage, bags and wallets featuring her signature wax wear canvas, equine inspired hardware, and top-grain leather detailing.The combination being the perfect mix of sporty elegance. The Equestrian style is a classic one that transcends trend and becomes an instant 'piece' for your bag collection.

For this give away, Oughton let me choose my favorite bag from the collection. I chose the versatile and casual, Course Tote ($165.00 value). I like the year 'round style of this bag and it's understated elegance. I'd use this as a chic carry on. It gives instant 'bam' to jeans and a T. It's also a great bag that will fit a lap top as well as a change of clothes for an overnight.

"The Course
Tote is crafted of cotton canvas [treated for stain resistance] and trimmed with lightly pebbled orange leather and cotton webbing surcingle [made exclusively for us]".   The little bags do not come with this giveaway but can be purchased here. The give-away begins today, Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 and will end on Wednesday, December 12th, 2012 at noon. The winner will be announced and notified within the next few days.

*Disclaimer: This bag will be shipped to you from Oughton. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery before you start complaining that you didn't get your free gift with out even so much as a purchase. That is all. Cheers and I love you. And I totally mean that.

::ROMAN & WILLIAMS:: design

I think this design duo is one of the most creative in the field.

 Their designs and color use, never feels regurgitated.

There's a sort of macabre thread that they masterfully weave into beautiful and cerebral design.

 This absolutely beautiful, in a haunting, 20s laboratory way. Gorgeous.

We're back! And boy are we ever.......

When you take a small break it's always good to come back big. And that's exactly what we did at The Skirted Round Table. This week we have none other than Miles Redd. One of my top, top, top favorite designers. This is yet, another refreshing industry interview with someone possessing enormous talent and zero hubris.

Miles Redd's home: The most adulated door in NYC.

You will love this man as much as you do his work. Oh, and speaking of which, Miles' recent book, or rather tome, "The Big Book of Chic" is discussed at length, as we maul the pictures with our eyeballs. So if you have a copy, go grab it,  and then come sit down with us for an hour  while we chat about the book and his work.

You can hear it       + + here + +

And as always, you can subscribe to our free podcast on itunes and listen to us in the car, while you drive, while you work, while you fold laundry ......
