hella balloon

remember watching that little movie "la ballon rouge" on a rainy, no recess day? didn't you always want that giant balloon? what better way to make you feel like a 'little' kid again?
a huge 3' balloon.
these would be a great addition to any celebratory gathering. of course you have to tie them with a beautiful shiny ribbon. and they also come in pink, yellow and white 3 foot balloons $5.00 a piece. i want one or many. floodstreetcuriosityshop

Thanks for the amazing memory! I have a distinct vision of sitting in a folding chair in the auditorium watching The Red Balloon in 1966. I fell in love with Paris that day.

I so remember that movie...

I had a much loved children's book that told the story through stills from the movie. It's still kicking around here somewhere. I wish they would re-release this on DVD.
I read, I think in Sunday's NYT, an article about some Japanese director's homage movie out at festivals now - Flight of the Red Balloon, I believe.

sparkie weren't you the one who also knew about the biography on dare whats-her-name of the 'lonely doll'?

you and i had similar exposure to kookie, (oft times disturbing) creative 'kids' media.

yes, my memory is sitting on the cold terrazzo floor of the 'grande salle' aka auditorium (i went to a french school) staring up at the screen, mesmerized.

Yes, you're right. Dare Wright. Now you have me wondering who procured those "edgy" tomes for me and my siblings... Fear not, there were also all sorts of Eloise, Blueberries for Sal, etc. to counterbalance the strange.

oh yes, and all of the fore mentioned books are sitting in my kids' room. blue berries for sal has the BEST illustrations. what about 'one morning in maine' a lovely book.

Don't get me started on Robert McCloskey - from Make Way For Ducklings through Homer Price. One of my faves, which I never knew of anyone else reading, was Burt Dow, Deep-Water Man. Fab stories and iconic illustrations.
