surreal suburbia

there's something so beautifully, weird and creepy about the images artist, leah giberson creates.
her work is very "david hockney" in feel. check it out, this is a hockney:
and this is a 'giberson':
do you see what i mean?
seemingly, vacant of any human presence, you're left with the simplicity of form and color fields.
giberson creates these pieces by working with a digital photo which she then adds paint, lace and embroidery thread.
her work is available on etsy and can also be seen on her own site, leahgiberson.com

Wow! I am in love with them. The clean edges and strength of color are intoxicating.

Nice... I will have to get husband's approval since he's the art critic in the house. But I could see a couple, or three of these sprucing up my bare walls.

She has a little Edward Hopper thrown in there, too. But with less color. Love them.

I had the same thought, they have that same light quality of hopper's work. sort of hockney esque in subject and color but hopper esque in lighting and the laydown of paint.
