light in shining armor

Not long ago, my friend Patricia of Mrs.Blandings, did a great posting on updating one's outdoor area with symmetrical, iron design elements. One of her finds was this great light fixture from shades of light:
I had once bookmarked it or tagged it, and had since forgotten all about it. But now that I have the ubiquitous 'Imperial Trellis' wallpaper living in my home {settle down. I know it's everywhere... and I still like it } a renewed interest got the best of me.
I have to hop in here and tell anyone that's spotted the painting on the ceiling, I DID NOT stencil my ceiling. It was done by the previous owner. Everytime I attempt to edit it out of the photo, it just looks funkier. So there it is. In all of its unmitigated glory. Look at it and wonder, as i have, "wtf?"
Bonus: the price was great for a quick fix. I have no issues with painting a room or hanging a few rolls of wallpaper, but having recently stuck my finger in a light bulb socket~ a weird and painful experience~ I don't mess with the electricity.
I left the job to Nick, who did a great job and I should apologize right here for muttering under my breath to Patricia, that his handyman prowess is limited to putting up Christmas trees. He has been exonerated.

Long live Imperial Trellis and pagoda hanging fixtures. Your room looks great.

What a cute house you have!
And fuck 'em if they don't like your wallpaper!
Everything goes so fast now regarding what's IN and what's OUT.
I can tell you right now that what's OVER are the stupid people making such pronouncements.
The chandy is dandy!!!! Congrats!
And you know, I don't see anything funky on your ceiling - it really doesn't show in the photos...

Yay for husbands who not only let us buy pink chandeliers, but hang them for us!!!

I love it and I think the scale is PERFECT! And, secretly, I knew Nick would pull it off. Did you know Bill's a plumber? I didn't either, but he thinks he is. We just let him.

Nope. Don't see a stencil. Love the chandelier! You have made a really inviting and very pretty space here. I like the grey of the ceiling too!

I love the whole room. I've spotted that fixture before as well and wished there was a spot for it in my house. Love...it....and I agree, I don't see anything on your ceiling.

i love the wallpaper, i love your room, i love the chandelier. but i'm thinking... with the light in place, i feel like upholstered chairs would somehow look better in the room... maybe because the chairs are wood-framed and "hollow", and so is the light, a "visual block" like upholstery would give the look some definition... or maybe its softness i'm missing... know what i mean? but don't get me wrong... i would DIE for a room this gorgeous... well done.
I love it! And I still like imperial trellis too.

thanks you guys! and ME TOO on the imperial trellis thing. It's a great little joosh a space.

and boo, you know what? I agree with you. While i like the repeat of the trellis, graphic thing, I think it could really use some softening.
BUT with the new husband came the new chairs. So for right now they stay.

*You* stuck your finger in a light socket? Seriously? You? But you're one of the smartest people I know. This is worrisom.

anne~ YES! I reached down to grab a lamp that was sitting on charlotte's floor. I didn't see that it was plugged in. I was just more concerned that it would be 'on' and get knocked over and forgotten.

So, I reached through the lampshade to grab it {this is where the stupidity comes in} not really paying any attention to the fact that there was NO LIGHTBULB!!!!

So, literally, I stuck my hand in a light socket. It made me black out and sent me flying across the room. weird and painful.

That looks great, but then, that whole area is really stunning.

This is just gorgeous. I am so jealous of your I.T. walls.

And that's my favorite light from Shades of...

I like the chairs with that table. At least he didn't come with gobs of hideous mahogany (can you feel my pain?).

I think this room is fabulous. Wish I had the bravery to wallpaper my study with this gorgeous wallpaper - who makes it? Also, I would LOVE your chandelier but unfortunately live in Sydney. Is wallpapering difficult. Do you recommend we try? What hints do you have?

Hi tracey...Imagine that. KWID, 'Imperial Trellis' isn't everywhere in OZ? Well, I'm glad to you, it's new.

wallpaper hanging isn't that tough. It takes much longer than you'll think and much more yardage.

You do need a big working space, you need to consider the repeat of the pattern (how big it is) when ordering the amount, make sure you have the right paste....lots of sharp blades, start in a corner...I'm sure there are some easy step by steps on a website.

tracey, if you want a little more direction...email me and I can give you a better explanation

sally wheat, i love it when you come on the comments! anyone that hasn't seen her house, go to cotedetexas.blogspot.com and check out her home. beautiful.
LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! The lantern is awesome and your dining room is so awesome. I never tire of Imperial Trellis either. Never.

Love the wall paper...LOVE it. Love the color on wall, love the table...I think the chairs are great...the new light? Not so much. You do like round light bulbs! I dunno....I mean...it's 1,000 times better than my dining area for sure...it's just the light...something is missing. Not hung low enough to the table? Color? Style? I like the length of it...maybe it will grow on me. Just a nagging feeling that there is one a bit better out there with your name on it. I agree, can't see the ceiling problem.
