Famous last words.
Spend any amount of time with me window shopping and before you know it, I'm want to utter that phrase. Or I say something like, "please. don't buy that....
you could totally make that. I'll show you!" I'm not sure if it's the girl scout in me or having a mother who was, literally and figuratively, the mother of all

Many years ago, when I first saw
John Derian's work, I made a feeble attempt to reproduce my version of his decoupaged plates. While, my efforts looked more like a Pier one plate smeared with Mod
Podge and some clipped photos, it was not remotely in the same realm as the master's work. However, seeing this posting, inspired me to maybe give it another try:

I haven't seen the scarf before - I think I'll try that!
When I was younger I made everything....as I have gotten older, I am a wee bit more lazy. I think too back in the day I had girlfriends and we would get together for nights without kids and do "adult" things. Then high school comes and no time and then college and no kids, and laziness. No excuse.
Ack! The saga continues: a former girl scout WITH a John Derian obsession - why didn't we get to the bottom of this when we had the chance...
I have heretofore balked at buying multiple Derians because of 2 things: the $ and the fact that "I could totally make that"! You've seen his house(s), right?
I found an old fishnet on Tomales Bay and have been dreaming of making it into a scarf like that tee but I don't know - it could go either way. Um, why are you wearing a fishnet around your neck or OMG, where did you get that? Hmmm. We'll see.
I know! I can totally make that stuff.....now I just need to find the the time. Oh hell...who'm I kidding? I will just have to stick to: " I bought this!"

I've uttered those famous last words many times! Sometimes I have great results, and sometimes I'd be better off just buying the original item, but the process is always fun.
I'm the queen of good intentions and those have been some infamous last words for me. Sadly most of my projects are halfway completeted or unstarted. Maybe one of these days I'll get some gumption to finish them....maybe.

Darling Megan, I would love to, only I am prevent by doing so though and iorn clad agreement with my local ER staff. Ah-hem. The only thing that I am permitted to make is calls to the bank to advise them I have worn down the numbers on my card again...

I swear I could have written the first paragraph of this post...I am a former girl scount and major DIY'er. Every time I go to market I say "I could make that" with which my business partner ads "why bother when you can buy it here." I must admit she has a point. And my mom made the most amazing/original Halloween costumes for us as kids!

I am totally inspired by this scarf... have you had any trouble with it fraying? I have been wanting to turn an old dress that I loved for years into a scarf for awhile...

Speaking from experience, the nautical flags make an adorable "just married" sign on the back of the bride and groom's getaway car!
I'm right there with everyone else...totally a girlscout who learned how to sew before I was 12. I think my love of fabric and texture is part of why I'm a designer. Although I often have to say to myself "I could make this but a) would I? or b) would I buy the materials and step over them in my closet for the next year! And then I just buy it...
