WOW those are some libraries! Wouldn't it be fun to be able to go in there and take whatever book you ever wanted!? It reminds me of the library in "The Beauty and the Beast"
(I know a little young, but here is the link: http://a0.vox.com/6a00c225256b2c604a00cd971d5ec04cd5-500pi to a picture of the library.) It is the cartoon version of some of those beautiful libraries.

OMG overwhelming but very cool. I secretly desire a library with a rolling ladder and leather couches. Don't tell Blake he'll throw a recliner in there...but there's something sexy about a library.... makes you want to wear glasses and drink cognac.

OMG these libraries are amazing!

When we bought our home 11 years ago we were fortunate that it has a library. The original owners that had the house built (one is a writer) wanted a library to showcase their collection. It has a barrel vaulted ceiling and everything. Pretty cool but absolutely nothing like any of these places!

Awe-struck. Especially the Brazilian library--hurts my neck to look up trying to read all of those titles. Makes me realize how lucky we all are to have such easy access to books. Thanks.

it's in my mom's hood. Couldn't help but add it to the collection....

Beautiful rooms, we forget how lucky we are now that books are so affordable, once they were treasures that needed beautiful castles like these for people to worship them.

Wow. The library of the Benedictine Monastery looks like the library I expect to find in heaven. Add some comfy down-filled armchairs and bottomless lattes... Thanks Megan.

In the tower of the Fairmont there is a penthouse, and in that penthouse there is a small library with a catwalk. A secret staircase leads to the catwalk, and a secret door hidden in the ranges lets out onto the roof. The domed ceiling is cerulean with the constellations painted on. It is the dreamiest little library.

Wow...the best of the best for inspiration...I find old libraries kind of creepy...remember the movie with Christian Slater called the Name of the Rose? Imagine a time where books were transcribed by hand, and their value.

Tiered libraries are the coolest!

Best,
Michelle
Fantastic libraries! thank you for the post. I love books and designing libraries for clients. These images are so inspirational
libraries always make me feel like I'm surrounded by old friends. Stunning images of my favorite places.
Thank you.

awesome additions to the collection, thanks!
These are so gorgeous. It's one of my goals in rich fantasy life to have a library in my house complete with a rolling ladder... Am I harboring a Beauty and the Beast fantasy? Yes, ma'am I am! Thanks for posting! xo

Funny you should mention porn, I read somewhere that the worlds largest collection belongs to the Vatican. I wonder if one has to sign a guest book to visit their library?

whsedrone_seriously? that's some great factoid! I"m not sure why they'd have porn, but it's a funny concept for sure!
