When I was a few minutes post college, living in a 2 bedroom, Lincoln Park flat with 5 room mates eating peanut butter or oatmeal for every meal and sleeping in the living room, on a futon mattress (which I had to roll up and shove to the side every morning) My disassociating 'dolls' of choice, were home decor catalogs.
I'm talking pharmaceutical grade, glossy, slick images. two page spreads, perfectly styled making anyone browsing, feel as though they could crawl into the vignette and start mixing cocktails at their 'ebony' finished bar, or laying around reading the paper in bed with your dog on beautiful linens or cooking up dinner with chic and fabulous friends using matching dishes! With coordinating cutlery!
So smitten was I, I actual interviewed for a job in C&B's table top division. But because I was a lazy-assed 21 year old who still believed that weekends were for sleeping in and hanging out looking cute at Oak St. beach, I declined the job offer. ("who'd want to work retail hours? I need a tan. Cute NWestern guys, blah blah balh" pleh. If only I could sit her down and give her a stern talking to. )
Back then, there were not a lot of these, but Crate & Barrel was always there to fix my jonez. There, sitting under an open window in the heat of a sweltering Chicago night, airless save for the occasional wind from the passing Ravenswood El, I lived vicariously via the glossy pages spread across my lap. This would be my future . If I could dream, it could be.
And from my lips to Crate & Barrel's ears. (or at least I'd like to think so) Starting today, C&B is offering One Grand Prize winner an entire room from their Spring Inspiration Catalog. An ENTIRE ROOM! Do you hear me, 20 something year old, self, sitting in your first apartment? $15,000 in product and shop card. Can you imagine the day that delivery truck drives up? Big Box Party!
Here's the bonus, They're going to give TEN runners-up, a $500 Crate and Barrel Shop Card. AND you can enter once a day, every day. Now through April 4 2012 for more info go here: www.crateandbarrel.com/Sweeps.
WAIT. That's not all. Because Crate & Barrel has long since forgiven me for making such the stupid mistake of not accepting their position because meeting boys and going to Wrigley Field was far more important at the time ( I think I did them a favor)
They're generously offering one of my readers a $250.00 Shop Card. Here's what you have to do:
- leave a comment w/ email
- tweet this give-away (the more you do, the more entries you'll have)
- friend beachbungalow8 on facebook
