Mixed Tape Monday

Hey! I'm back from a self imposed blog break. Sometimes you need to take your focus off of  that thing which has become routine,  just to come back to it with a fresh perspective.

 I pulled together this little mixed tape. Most of it's just random music that floats in and out of my background music during the day. Although, I did throw in Bay area, Loquat who are new to me but apparently have been killing it at SXSW. It's mellow and sort of an easy introduction to electronic. Also, if you like Feist, it is said that you'll probably like this husband and wife duo.

worldless chorus :: my morning jacket

i don't play piano :: money mark

jojo's jacket :: stephen malkamus

dance yrself clean :: lcd soundstystem

fortress :: pinback

bukowski :: modest mouse

kindling for fire :: loquat

po' folks :: nappy roots

 Oh! and speaking of lovely, check out this really cool old soul of a house, if you haven't already. I can just feel the pride in this elegant old man of a manse.

not being able to read Japanese, so not knowing for sure, I think these are bottle openers. So cool.

Pretty, shiny and completely in Japanese so I can't tell you much about them. What I do know is that somebody (me) needs those pendants for their, home, office or shop. They're gorgeous. I found them at Futagami

What's going on this weekend? Coachella anyone? Nay. I'm way to old/pampered/boring/spoiled/easily annoyed (comes with age)/hygienically have to deal with throngs of sweaty, dirty. BUT the music lineup is insane. I think I'm really going to be missing out. So I'll be sticking 'round these parts. I have a ton of Spring cleaning things that need to get done/fixed/bought/made, but a storm just moved in so it looks like more inside stuff than out (maybe that ikea dresser project?). By the way, I'm really ready for days like this [photo] .... consecutively! How about you?

I just ran across these wallpapers at the Australia based site, Jimmy Cricket. The site its self is worth a look - Super creative + whimsical. But anyway, when I saw these I thought, wouldn't these, car + robot wallpapers be great in a little boy's room?

Throw some modular carpet tiles (in orange) from Flor .....

and some sheets from Serena + Lily and you're well on your way to the most kick-ass kid's room in the neighbor hood.

And wait! For those of you who don't have a little boy's room in need of a little update, check these out (above)   Stick an over scaled wing-back in front of the plates, and you can pretend you're at the Viceroy in Santa Monica.

If you have a moment, go check their site out. There's a lot more art and 'bits and bobs' to be seen.

disclosure:: I was not compensated, in anyway, by the fore mentioned sites. However, if you are one of them, and you've found this post via google alert, I'm happy to talk swag or ad space. Just saying.

 In preparation for summer......................

The Bonnie bracelets - Stackable + wearable with anything. Perfect against a summer sun kissed arm.
Sea Hello, iPhone Cover - I need something new. Something fresh + summery that says, 'beach'
Batik serving utensil set - I'll put polka-dots on anything. Pretty much. Ideal for summer dinners at the beach.
Tally Home door mat - Another sea faring design element I'll go for anytime (but not on my arm)

The simple, inflatable gold cube designed by product designer, Martin Azua, is a statement on how we live and how we can simplify to make our lives better. This is his answer to a house that easily fits into one's pocket and can be inflated by body or solar heat,  when needed.

I think I'm needing to remind myself that less is more. For whatever reason, lately, I'm drawn to "simplicity and calm. " Although I don't think Azua meant that we should, literally, all live in a gold poly cube. But I believe that thinking outside of the box was the message.

"Our habitat has turned into a space of consumption in which an unlimited number of products satisfy a series of needs created by complex systems and relations that are difficult to control. Cultures that maintain a more direct interaction with their environment show us that the idea of habitat can be understood in more essential and reasonable terms."

No only is this film, quiet and beautifully shot/edited, the man behind the idea has inspired me so much. I keep re-reading his words; words that I think most of need to hear from time to time. Plus, it's a great story. Entirely shot for 50 dollars.

If you'd like to read more about Peter and his inspirational thought process, there's a great interview found here.

"... this is my first film. I made it because I love all the different aspects of moviemaking, because I was tired of my fear of failure, and because I wanted to see what would happen if I just finished one." - Peter Lewis

Did a bit of Spring Cleaning on my desktop and thought I'd dump these on to the blog for discussion and viewing.......
Great ikea hack. It's so doable.  And I'm doing it. After months of scouring our local Goodwill for the perfectly sized, not too grungey dresser to re-hab,  I've decided to just go buy a throw-away ikea Malm dresser. Check out the cool and easy facelift you can give it using adhesive overlays.

I  love this desert get away. I can only imagine the views at dusk. I'm sort of concerned about the thing heating up like a terrarium at high noon.

I'd like to pretend that this pool house is really a diminuitive little cottage with a great lap pool,  in the Cotswolds - far, far from any reality. And that there are no bugs here in the summer - but I think this is in Atlanta.

 I don't really like the electric range, but other than that, I'm totally down with this space. Dinner party anyone?

 Even though the first thing I thought of was the corner table at the  Chart House in Redondo Beach - boy howdy, I'd love to wake up to this most mornings.

 Always and forever a sucker for grass cloth and this one, in Charcoal with the brass touches? The ikat shades? yes.

 .....and speaking of things that never get old.....these windows?

Gorgeous and forever a style icon in my book.  Jenna with the cool house (that I heard she sold) and the cool job. Did you think of her as a smoker? Somehow I never figured that beautiful house smelled like a Howard Johnson.

And having nothing to do with anything except that I need to get this off of my chest (and I like this photo - holy cow THAT is a beard to put any hipster to shame. You could hide all kinds of contraband in there. )  Is it just me or does it bug everyone when the barista at Starbucks (or any other stranger except for a sweet old lady ) uses 'sweetheart', 'hon' or 'dear' to address the customer. I'm told it's just me. Alright my dears. That's it for me on this Wednesday.

I really need one of these. Those of you with a home office, know that it requires a special kind of discipline to shut the door to unmade beds and breakfast dishes in the sink in order to get down to business.

 Having no yard, or only a sliver, I'm not sure where I'd even put it. I guess the one  imperative of this little  would be that it be close to a loo ( of course all that I can think of is, "but wait, there's no pee in this pod" and then silently, crack myself up. I live with a 5th grader, my humor has devolved. )  Anyway, stupid jokes aside if you want one you can see about it here.

the B to the Log

it's all about me, really.
