the nose knows

is this really a better version of what was? (empress and her new clothes much?).
i can't help but think that this room might smell a lot like
stale cigarette smoke and georgio perfume.

This was such a disappointing photo spread from domino magazine. Yes, it does bring to mind cigarette smoke and rank perfume. It reminds me of Earl's hotel room in My Name is Earl. Bad!

Totally. And I would expect to find a package of Lee Press-On Nails in that top drawer. (Love ya KWID, but I cannot live with this one).

good call on the lee press on nails.
You are so right. It totally looks like a sleezy hourly rate hotel in Vegas. I was very disappointed as well. It's nothing that I must have.

I kind of like the bed, but the wallcovering is HID-e-ous. And she ran it right over the room's only window!

I loves me some KW, but I cannot live with this design.

That post cracked me up !! That room is abysmal, gross, nasty, tacky, I was shocked. No, I take that back. Have you seen her get ups on Top Design. It's gone to head literally & figuratively, those hats !! Yuk.

Ditto to above comments. I was utterly disappointed at the whole spread. It was scary...both the design and the thought that perhaps someone at Domino had lost their mind.

brilliant asylum - I totally laughed out loud at your Lee Press On Nails comment...SO TRUE!!

Well, the chair is cute...
I have to ask, what's up with that tagline 'we can't live with your design'...?
glad you stopped by and I added you to my blogroll.

If I ever write a blog or a book I will call it "stale cigarette smoke and georgio perfume". I don't know what it will be about but that is just the best line EVER.

I know, what happened, just when I thought Domino was improving.Yes, and what was Kelly thinking? I'm sorry, I am also getting weary of seeing starburst mirrors everywhere.

Looks like she's trying just a bit too hard.

I'm sory, but that's the ugliest thing I have seen in a long while.

It seems to follow in the vein of a designer has a name, he/she must do good work. NO WAY on this one!

much too much!! right on with the emperor's clothes reference...

Leah - I laughed out loud at your last line.

Megan - it looks even worse in isolation. I was looking back through the issue and the only bright spot is a screen with brass inlay. I feel like she and the magazine were secretly laughing as they put this together. I wonder if they noticed the silence?
72 and sunny said…
I hope they're laughing.

Because if they're serious about that last issue? um. I need to tell them about this premonition I once had about a little magazine called 'Blueprint'.

i'm with you, SO over the starburst mirror.

I think that wallpaper was in my hospital delivery room. Anyone deliver at cpmc (SF) late 90s?

Yah, I can't do it...no matter. just CAN'T

Too much, too busy (had to hunt for the sunburst mirror!) and toooo ugly. That wallpaper is ghastly!

This is so thrilling to me, when I first saw it I was like what is it I am missing about her, I think it is horrible, maybe I just haven't caught on yet. So glad others are saying what I thought. xo, MB

Yikes! I think she's searching for what's next. But this can't be it.

Horrible room - the website link is wrong too...

I was going to comment about bad doctor office wall coverings! Working in the medical industry and being in and out of doc offices all day long...I have seen some bag ugly. And this is about on par. Gag.

Amen sister!
And thanks for bringing it up.
Methinks all the dg's (domino girls) be running out of steam.

I think your thoughts about the stale smoke and perfume are right on the money and hilarious!

There's an awful lot going on in this bedroom--emphasis on the word "awful". I expect better from Domino than that.
agreed! this room left me...uh, perplexed. that wallpaper? barfy. If the walls were solid it would be a much better look.

Everytime I look at this room, another smell comes to mind. this morning it's grilled onions.

Can you imagine walking barefoot in this room?

anon, I fixed the link. Thanks for being the voluntary beachbungalow8 I.T., for the day.

ha! It looks like an outdated Hampton Inn room with updated bedding and a new chair. Actually... like the persons staying in the room brought their own bedding.

I'm afraid that ceiling light would cripple me in the middle of the night.. unless the wallpaper did me in first ;)

i am so glad that everyone feels the same way! its just wrong...the wallpaper is simply awful. something is going on w/ her...i mean, what is the deal w/ the way she looks on top design?? it's crazy!

To add to that... My first thought is that off camera is a Commodore 64 computer and someone drinking a 40 in a bathrobe...

fer real..if I was kidnapped and imprisoned at the Hotel California, this is what I imagine my hotel room/jail cell would look like.

I would like her to decorate this for Top Design and see what Margaret Russel would have to say from Elle Decor!

margaret would be plugging her nose.

Oh, hello, you are so right on. And I guess one can expect to also be wearing a turban while strolling through the room. Blah!

Makes me think: "double wide".......
Bet there's a rusty old Camaro on concrete blocks in the yard, too.
And someone sitting in a broken lawnchair, wearing a tubetop screaming at the 11 kids to come and get a day-old donut and warm soda for breakfast.

Shhh... don't tell anyone but I actually like the headboard.

LMAO-- I love the comments people are making on this room, and they are so true. When I saw this room I could not help think who the hell would look to the 70's for interior design cues? The 70's were all avocado, burnt orange, and brown-- truly awful. It is truly hideous. No one could sleep in there, it is vomit inducing.
cotedetexas said…
vomitus.and sorry, but I am so NOTO over starburst, just not yet. i still covet them! so sue me.

I couldn't agree more with your description. I don't mean to offend anyone, but this room just screams tacky clutter. I would not be able to sleep here, it has far too much going on!!!

I think Kelly had her Delorian parked outside too. And she really should stop driving that car finally as the fumes are starting to back up into the cab :)

If you take each individual item in this room they are not so bad (except for the wallpaper....it is just unforgiveable). It's just all together that make it a "stinker". I play this game in my head somethimes: a new reality TV game show where designer's have to take something seemingly hideous and make it spectacular in a new design setting. Bravo...it's my idea.(I think I could do something with that ceiling fixture.)
72 and sunny said…
katie, you're always half full gal! i can see your point. but that star burst mirror and the wall paper is badness. not in a good way.
