I stumbled across these photos a while ago when it was a blazing hot beach day, summer in full glory. They didn't really feel timely. But now with Autumn upon us, Halloween only a few weeks away, they seemed perfectly suited.
I honestly know very little about these. Apparently, there are old houses, deep within the forests of Russia, that sit, undisturbed, some with furnishing still intact.
Sort of a Hansel and Gretel visit Grey Gardens feel. Photographer Andrew Qzmn, went to the town of Chukholma {which I'm pretty sure is Russian for "Oklahoma" } 300 miles northeast of Moscow to photograph these old abandoned, homes elaborately ornate in the Terem influenced style.
Hauntingly beautiful.

Just beautiful...I am speechless.
Strange yet fascinating. Thanks for posting!
Like fairytale houses!
Beautiful pictures. Makes me think of probably my favorite movie, Zhivago.
Wowza. I wonder if they staged these just the slightest bit, like with the branches in the standing thingie?
They look cold even inside. That blue crackly room? Love that color.
Love the second house! Would love to get my hands on something like that. An undiscovered jem hidden in the woods just waiting for me to breathe like back into it...
Gorgeous! But are you sure they are abandoned? They look very clean inside, and weather-tight.
Yes very eerie but beautiful.. Definitely haunted - wouldn't want to spend the night.
Wonderful images though - great find.
Thanks for sharing.

Wow, amazing discovery . I wish I were there to look through all the nooks and crannies with you!
* Wow, so many thoughts running thru my head... Hauntingly beautiful is a perfect description... I was reminded of Dr. Zchvago (have NO idea how to SPELL that one!)~~~ Beautifully eerie, too..................
Thanks for something reallllly "new" to see, in it's "old age"~ how many STORIES lie within those walls??????
Best,
Linda in AZ *
Yes..Dr. Zhivago for sure!
I wish I knew the stories behind these house. I think they would probably be filled with so much joy and sadness. I wonder what happened to those that lived in these splendid summer homes.
stumbled across your blog and these amazing photos purely by clicking Next Blog after updating my own blog today...stunning photos, haunting, beautiful and very sad in a majestic kind of way..thank you for posting!

I love these houses. Why would they be abandoned? MB
Wow ... Imagine someone has lived there, slept in that bed. Perhaps a family used to be eating by that table. That's amazing. Russia is a fascinating country ... I live so close by it (in Sweden) and yet I know so little about it.
Wow Megan. These photos are amazing. Sad and beautiful all at once. Thanks.
if only i could get in there with my camera......and a fashion crew........those homes would make the best video shoot! and I'm no videographer.............
What is your source for these photos? I love them.
fabulous colors, details... would love a day to play there!!! thanks for sharing!
it's funny to think people use to live like that at one point in time...
Ohhh It's very beautiful! Like a dream.
besswess, the photographer is Andrew Ozmara.
Can't you just see a fashion spread shot in one of these!
Something about Russia kind of scares me, but these houses are amazing....very Dr. Zhivago.
That is breathtaking!
these are amazing pictures of once magnificent homes... such a shame what has happened to them
SO Dr. Zhivago! Eerie, and beautiful. Haunted? I bet so!
