russian orphans

I stumbled across these photos a while ago when it was a blazing hot beach day, summer in full glory. They didn't really feel timely. But now with Autumn upon us, Halloween only a few weeks away, they seemed perfectly suited.

I honestly know very little about these. Apparently, there are old houses, deep within the forests of Russia, that sit, undisturbed, some with furnishing still intact.

Sort of a Hansel and Gretel visit Grey Gardens feel. Photographer Andrew Qzmn, went to the town of Chukholma {which I'm pretty sure is Russian for "Oklahoma" } 300 miles northeast of Moscow to photograph these old abandoned, homes elaborately ornate in the Terem influenced style.

Beautiful pictures. Makes me think of probably my favorite movie, Zhivago.

Wowza. I wonder if they staged these just the slightest bit, like with the branches in the standing thingie?

They look cold even inside. That blue crackly room? Love that color.
Love the second house! Would love to get my hands on something like that. An undiscovered jem hidden in the woods just waiting for me to breathe like back into it...

Gorgeous! But are you sure they are abandoned? They look very clean inside, and weather-tight.

I love these houses. Why would they be abandoned? MB

Wow ... Imagine someone has lived there, slept in that bed. Perhaps a family used to be eating by that table. That's amazing. Russia is a fascinating country ... I live so close by it (in Sweden) and yet I know so little about it.
